The 2015 holiday shopping season put an exclamation point on the growth that the wearable tech market has had, and will continue to have in the foreseeable future. For big brands like Apple and Samsung, this means huge investments and huge profits as the mobile tech war evolves with the internet of things. But what does this mean for those of us that won’t be selling wearable technology anytime soon? It means that our customers are increasingly more connected, and most importantly, how we connect with them must evolve.

Wearable technology is really just an evolution from handheld technology like smart phones. What has held true as best practice for desktop computers has for the most part carried over to laptops, which for the most part carried over to mobile devices, which will for the most part carry over to wearable tech. I say, “mostly” because there have been a number of key advancements that have improved our understanding for what best practices are.
